Health Awareness Day 2010

Lori O'Leary of MusicWorks shares how music therapy can help those facing special challenges. Information and demonstrations are held throughout the day. Here, a Health Awareness Day participant learns about the ancient art of Reiki. Our many volunteers help to make Health Awareness Day a success. Here, the Ridley High School Art Club hosts the popular face painting station. The Best Buy Nintendo Wii Fit Station was a hit at this year's event. Courtesy of our friends from Best Buy of Springfield, a 37" television, Nintendo Game System, and Nintendo Wii Fit were raffled off to help support Health Awareness Day. John Taylor, descendant of the founders of Taylor Hospital, helped celebrate the Hospital's 100th anniversary by sharing historical information. TCF honored community volunteers with a plaque and $100 to be donated to the TCF Eligible Organization of their choice. Middle School student, Tory Lynch, was recognized for her commitment to the community. Children make their own special recipe at the YMCA healthy snack mix station. Health information was offered for all ages at Ridley Health Awareness Day. TCF Scholar Carey Sentman volunteered her time at the TCF Teddy Bear Clinic. Posing for pictures with Tigger added to the carnival-like atmosphere of Health Awareness Day. Everybody wants a picture with Tigger. The face painting station is one of the favorite destinations for the younger age group. Many exhibitors at Health Awareness Day bring free samples to share with the community. Health Awareness Day provides the community with a plethora of health information. The Dance Dance Revolution station will test your skills and your stamina! TCF Scholars Doug Gerdine and Carey Sentman help youngsters perform medical checkups on their furry friends. As one of the sponsors of Health Awareness Day, Taylor Hospital provides many health information resources for the event. Michelle Maylie, TCF Scholar, enjoyed helping children at the TCF Teddy Bear Clinic station.

Teddy Bear Clinics

Halley Hunt and Isabella Gracie ensure their patient gets a thorough checkup. Sophia Urso shows no fear as she confidently handles an otoscope to examine her bear's ears. Nurse Janet Le helps Jack Laverty examine his teddy bear at Ridley Township Library. Brandon Rumford tests his bear's reflexes with Nurse Janet Le assisting. Sarah Schreiber colors her favorite foods in the Teddy Bear Clinic coloring book. Michael Lee shares his favorite teddy bear story as Morgan and Sarah Schreiber listen. Nurse Sam Kashow watches as Quadre Stephens tells his teddy bear, "Stick out your tongue and say 'Aaah!'" Kevin Pierce talks to Ridley Area YMCA students, Nicole Rossano, Skyler Waltz, Evelyn Ho and Kevin Metz, about their favorite foods. Nurse Janet Le shows Nicole Geyer how to hear her heartbeat. Jonathan Parsons colors the page explaining why it's important to get plenty of rest. Sean Gillespie and Joe Yochim, TCF volunteer, wonder "Do elephants have reflexes in their trunk?" Susan Eshbach of Sharon Hill Library reads "My Friend, the Doctor" to the students from Rock the Boat Daycare. Children play "Is this food healthy?" game with Kevin Pierce. Natalie Carter and Grace Mohr chat about which colors look best.

Taylor Hospice
