2011 TCF Scholar and Grantee Recognition Reception and Banquet

The TCF Board Members are thanked for their commitment and dedication to the Taylor Community Foundation. TCF Scholar Danielle Dexter and her mother, Liz. Danielle is now attending Gwynedd-Mercy College and plans to become a Registered Nurse. Diane Miller, President of Taylor Hospital, presents new ideas and programs being put into effect at Taylor Hospital. Jennette Haverdink, TCF Scholar and future Registered Nurse, arrives with her parents, Scott and Peggy. Emma Husted-Sherman with parents, John and Melissa. Emma is headed to Tufts University in the fall with a career goal to become a physician. Kurt Slenn, the President and CEO of the Taylor Community Foundation, issues a challenge to the community to raise funds to help other community members when personal disaster strikes. The TCF "Pay It Forward" Fund kicks off with the "Trash the Stache" Campaign: Kurt will publicly shave his mustache when the $20,000 goal is reached. 2011 Scholarship Recipient Maggie Lamb is pictured with her parents, Bob and Nancy. Maggie will attend Penn State University in the fall to become a Speech Therapist. 2006 TCF Scholar Courtney MacDowell shares words of wisdom to the incoming 2011 Scholars. Courtney will continue to give back to the community as a member of the TCF "Pay It Forward" Committee. Rania Mina was recognized with the Student Impact Award for the many devoted hours of service, sacrifice, and commitment she has so unselfishly given to our community. Scholarship Recipient Ryan Mulholland stands with his parents, Robert and Catherine. Ryan will be attending Drexel University, with plans of becoming a physician. Much to their surprise, the "Fabulous Five" were the after-dinner entertainment. MaryJo Yannacone (Strath Haven Principal), Kurt Slenn (TCF President), Michael West (2011 TCF Scholar), Mandy Slenn (Tycor Benefit Administrator), and Kevin Pierce (Ridley YMCA Aquatics Director) danced to the music provided by Jerry O’Leary of MusicWorks. Gabrielle Petrancuri, a 2011 TCF Scholar, is flanked by her grandfather, Aldo, and her father, Marc. Gabrielle plans to pursue a career in Pediatric Nursing. Future physician Grace Ribble arrives with her parents, Chrissy and Jack. Grace will attend the University of Pittsburgh in the fall. Joseph Richburg’s goal is to become a cardiologist. Sending him off to Albright College this fall are proud parents, Irving and Cindy. Representatives of Tycor Benefit Administrators, the Bronze Sponsor of the event, take their turn at spinning the TCF Wheel to see which non-profit organization will be the lucky winner. The three grant winners included Legal Aid, Child Guidance Resource Center, and Maternity Care Coalition. Michael West, accepted to the University of the Sciences as a pre-med major, is joined by his parents, Mike and Linda. Gabrielle Petrancuri, winner of the raffle, has a new Xbox Kinect and flat-screen TV for her college residence. Best Buy team members Kerry Brown and Eric Murtaugh were on hand to deliver the goods. Dillon Goss (center), with parents John and Christine, will study physical therapy at Arcadia University. TCF Scholars Lindsay Haasis, Timothy Kirk, and Gloria Larson will be pursuing different majors, but all three have a passion for helping people. Maddy Wharton will attend MIT, future surgeon Stefano Pacifici is off to Tufts University, and Gloria Larson will head to Nebraska's Creighton University. Athlete and TCF Scholar Megan Crowley with parents Sharon and Kevin. Megan will attend University of Delaware and major in Exercise Science. Timothy Kirk and his parents Elsa and Bob Hencinski. Tim will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study for a future career as a nurse anesthesist. David Krewson, former board and scholarship committee member, arrives to meet the 2010 scholars with his wife, Doris. Pam Artese and Kristin Novino, founders of the Knitting Arts Mentoring Program at Prospect School, are excited to share how their small group is supporting Knots of Love. A multi-sport athlete and TCF Scholar, Monica Parcell will attend McDaniel College. Monica is flanked by proud parents Joyce and Joe Parcell.

Gassaway, long-time TCF Board Member and generous donor, is recognized as the Extraordinary Individual Philanthropist of the Year. Featured speaker John Patro, Jr., a 2003 TCF Scholar and Occupational Therapist, returns to share words of inspiration and encouragement with the students who are about to begin their college careers. Tim Gobrecht, a TCF Scholar and dedicated social service volunteer, plans to work in the community as a physician’s assistant. Sharing in his achievements are his parents, Gary and Sue Gobrecht. As part of her preparation for her future has a physician, Tasnim Aziz spent the last two summers working with a team of scientists at the University of Pennsylvania researching diseases that affect the community. As evidenced by her volunteer work in multiple healthcare environments, Lauren Fox is dedicated to the medical field and will attend Philadelphia University to expand her medical knowledge. Pictured here are Lauren and Brenden McGeehan. Claire Levis (left), TCF’s first homeschooled student, has but one career goal: to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. Lindsay Christman (center), was originally an education major, but realized that her true calling was nursing and is now attending Villanova University. The TCF Recognition Banquet in April of each year is always a highlight of the year for the Board Members. At this special dinner, we honor our allied health scholars. Presenting TCF’s new web site are board members Jeff MacIntyre, Merv Harris, Anne Howanski, Dennis Cronin, Hank Griffith, Pat O’Brien, William Erb, Christina Costanzo Clark, John Clark, James Gassaway, and Hank Eberle. Involved in volunteer work with Special Olympics, YMCA, HEADstrong Foundation, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Lindsay Christman plans to continue helping children by working in pediatric oncology. Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry was recognized as the “Extraordinary Community Organization of the Year.” Linda Freeman, Director of the Food Pantry, said “We had no idea that after seven years of operation we would grow to be the largest food center in Delaware County and our growth shows not only the need in our local communities, but the open hearts of the people of this area.” The Board and Staff of TCF recognize that the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just that little extra! Annalise Penikis is heading off to Lehigh University in the fall, where she will study biomedical engineering and continue to play lacrosse. Ziqian Wang will attend the University of Pennsylvania; Christopher Henderson is off to the University of Pittsburgh; and Tasnim Aziz will commute to Bryn Mawr College. As the principal sponsor of our recognition banquet, TD Bank representatives Barbara Palmore and Jennifer Wilcox proudly accepted the award for TD Bank as “Extraordinary Corporate Philanthropist of the Year.” Dr. William Erb, Jr., and his wife, Ursula, enjoy mingling with scholars, grantees, and special guests. Sprinting in from a Ridley High School lacrosse game where he is the team goalie, Scott Kellett will be running off to Temple University this fall where he will major in biochemistry. Thank you from the all of the TCF Staff and Board Members! Steve and Debbie’s son, Michael, is a 2008 TCF Scholar attending Drexel University. Representatives of PNC Advisors — co-sponsors of this year's banquet — Rich Fiedorek and Gina Richards spun the TCF wheel to determine the non-profit organization that received $1,000 to further support their work in the community.
