  Lisa Bauer Memorial BBQ

On May 25th, Nassau Swim Club hosted a special event in memory of Lisa Bauer to bring awareness of the danger of heart disease, especially in women.

Hundreds of community members came out to the 6th annual memorial BBQ to support this great cause. The event featured activities including a moon bounce, a silent auction, a DJ, a scavenger hunt, blood pressure screenings, and, of course, the pool as a place to swim and relax.

The BBQ event was extremely successful, raising over $3,800 that was then donated to the TCF Pay-It-Forward Fund and the Women's Heart Health initiative in Lisa's memory.

  2015 Scholarship Applicants Wanted

We are now accepting applications for the TCF Allied Health Scholarships.

These scholarships are awarded to selected individuals who are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in an allied health profession and who currently live in the TCF Service Area. Ideally, TCF Scholars will return to directly improve the lives of other TCF Service Area residents.

Deadline for application submission is November 21, 2014.

  Thirteenth Annual Recognition Reception

TCF celebrated outstanding scholars, leading community philanthropists, and extraordinary organizations at our thirteenth annual reception on April 24th at the Springhaven Club in Wallingford, PA.

As part of the ceremonies, our newest cohort of scholars — recipients of almost $100,000 in scholarship funding — were recognized. We honored the philanthropic impact on our community of Joseph and Marianne Martin as the Extraordinary Philanthropists of the Year and the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County as the TCF Extraordinary Organization of the Year. TCF also presented Dr. Edward Small with the Community Impact Award recognizing his many devoted hours of service, sacrifice, and commitment to Academy Park High School, particularly to the Rising Scholars Program.

Primary sponsors of this event included PNC Bank, Tycor Benefit Administrators, TD Bank, and International Raw Materials, Ltd.

Ridley Health Awareness Day/YMCA Healthy Kids Day

The annual Ridley Health Awareness and YMCA Healthy Kids Day Event, held at the Ridley High School campus on Saturday, April 5th, was a day to be remembered. Activities for all ages included free health screenings, free breakfast, character appearances, healthy food samples, and a performance by the Ridley Drama Group and Fireworks Dance Team. The 2014 event had over 70 information and interactive stations that helped us learn how to eat healthy, stay fit, and take care of our minds and bodies.

Health Awareness Day is the result of a wonderful collaboration between the Taylor Community Foundation (TCF), Ridley School District, Crozer Keystone Health System, the Ridley Township Board of Commissioners, and the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

The event kicked off with a 5K run/walk sponsored by the Ridley Educational Foundation and the Y. Many runners took advantage of the free massages and free breakfast. Grace Park Elementary School was awarded the TCF 5K Fitness Challenge Trophy for having the greatest participation level of all the schools in the District.

We view this as an excellent opportunity to receive first-hand information about the services available in our local community that focus on healthy living and we are proud to be a sponsor of the event.

  TCF's Pay-It-Forward Fund

TCF's Pay-It-Forward Fund is designed to assist local community members who encounter sudden adversity that leaves them with an unexpected and uncovered health-related financial burden.

Many of your friends and neighbors have already answered the call by hosting fund-raising events or making direct donations for the purpose of making Pay-it-Forward goals a reality.

If you are interested in helping us to fund these types of needs in your schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods, please contact the TCF staff by calling 6104616571 or via email at info@taylorcommfdn.org. Or use the button above to donate online with your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account.

If you have encountered a major setback of the type described or know somebody in the TCF Service Area who has, please use our Pay-It-Forward Application for Funding form to apply for assistance.

  Recent Grants Awarded

The TCF Board of Directors recently approved the following grants:

  • Celebrate Age 2014 to support the Delaware County Senior Games for the 8th consecutive year. This annual program engages adults, aged 50+, in a week-long series of events that promote a healthy, social, and active lifestyle.

  • Ridley Park Borough for the purchase of three new bulletproof vests for police officers and the purchase of pest spray tanks on behalf of the Highway Department and Board of Health, which will enable them to better control the risk population of mosquitoes, ticks, and other health conditions that stem from pests and rodents.

  • Ridley School District for the purchase of FitBit Flex activity monitors for use by 450 8th grade students. The FitBit Flex allows users to track overall health habits such as daily activity, exercise, sleep patterns, and calories burned and provides instant motivational feedback and alerts to help users achieve their personal goals.
